ASAP Objectives
ASAP Objectives
ASAP aims to contribute to restore aquifers, promote sustainable use of
water and to prevent groundwater contamination. ASAP implements a highly
representative chain of actions to recover sustainable conditions in the
overexploited aquifer serving the city of Pisa.
ASAP will act on the water distribution network
- to contrast the increase of groundwater pumping due to growing and variable demand, by improving the capability of the distribution system to keep pumping at minimum while granting to citizens constant availability of quality water;
- to contrast the increasing vulnerability of aquifers, by restoring equilibrium conditions of water level and internal pressure - thus reducing the risk of in-taking of contaminants;
- to demonstrate at a representative scale how to protect and recover overexploited aquifers acting promptly, in economically viable and technically feasible ways, conducive to more general and long term sustainable strategies.
