REASONED USE OF WATER AND ENERGY – THEME WATER

On 16 February 2007 the conference entitled REASONED USE OF WATER AND ENERGY – THEME WATER was held in Pisa at the School Complex “Concetto Marchesi” – on the occasion of which the project ASAP/LIFE was presented.

Water and energy are two topics which have received the attention of the whole world for many years now, above all, but not only, in relation to conditions of life and of development, but in relation to a new relationship with a new kind of management of the economy linked to a reduced environmental pressure, resorting therefore to the concept of eco-efficiency.

By efficient use is meant

  • Use of more efficient component that for a given product or service rendered consume fewer resources, ASAP in this case is linked both to project choices and to the technological characteristics of the equipment and finally to the way they are used
  • Use of new Technologies
  • Making appropriate planning choices, that allow the use of the components almost always in conditions of maximum efficiency; adoption of higher performance cycles, co-generation, or in the case of water a more appropriate use through re-use and recycling
  • Spread of a new culture of behaviour that is the ways equipment is used.

Mario Chiarugi Director of Servizio Acquedotto Acque SPA states:

Saving water and energy and therefore linking their use to the concept of “reasoned”, means adopting modes of planning, administration, plant technology and behaviour that will determine fewer jobs for a given service rendered.

This approach is applicable to the whole process from production to final consumption or to post-use treatment in the case of water and involve both the providers of the services and users from whatever sector.

The project ASAP/LIFE fits into this context, developed by Acque Spa, in collaboration with Acque Ingegneria, the Isntituto tecnico de Galicia and the Province of Pisa, in order to draw up and apply a protocol aimed at the reduction of the vulnerability of the stratum to contamination due to overexploitation”.
